3D SCANNING DELIVERABLES

Master Point Clouds

Master Point Cloud
The Primary Deliverable

Every time Meyer3D is called out to scan something for a client, it actually requires multiple scans, from different positions around the target, to accurately capture all aspects of the target in three dimensions. The output of each scan produces a ‘Point Cloud’. Each point cloud is comprised of millions, sometimes billions of points in space.

Since multiple scans are required to capture all aspects of the target, each of the resulting ‘point clouds’ must be merged into a giant ‘point cloud’ to be delivered to the client. This merging alignment process is referred to as stitching, or registering, the ‘point clouds’.

We also meld the master point cloud into the panoramic photographs taken during the scanning process. This allows visual recognition of the master ‘point cloud’.

This master ‘point cloud’ comprises the primary deliverable supplied to all of our client architects, engineers and designers.

Point Cloud Modeling

CAD, Revit, BIM, and Other Deliverable Formats

Sometimes our clients need additional ‘point cloud’ processing. This is referred to as ‘Modeling’ and ‘point cloud modeling’ requires specialty software designed to meet the needs of various industries. Meyer3D has the software, or knows where to get the software, to meet almost every client requirement.

Point cloud modeling is very technical in nature and, while time consuming, some clients report that it reduces non-point cloud modeling of the same project by about 75%. This is a huge time and cost savings for the client.

If you are a regular Meyer3D customer, requiring a consistent deliverable requirement, our production time is decreased with each iterative assignment. We get to know you and merge ourselves into your workflows as we develop a better understanding of your production needs. Over time, our production modeling times decrease substantially. Since we bill ‘by-the-hour’ our repetitive clients typically see their project costs decrease even more over time.

There are many types of 3D scanners on the market, and every scanner is designed to target a certain market segment. All scanners have their strengths and weaknesses. For example, one scanner may make scanning a 20 story building an easy task, where it would be difficult if not impossible for another.  That same scanner might not be the best tool when scanning small parts.

There are similar differences in software capabilities between market segments and scanning companies.  The ideal software used for construction operations might be the wrong choice for Gas & Oil operations. At Meyer3D we are constantly growing our equipment and software solutions to meet the needs of our reoccurring customers.

At Meyer3D, if you are a potential ‘long term’ high volume client, we will acquire the equipment and software to meet your specific needs. Production time is decreased and all work is done in-house. Everyone wins.
